‘Stuff the Bus’ – A Good Cause in Lexington, Kentucky

Hey, folks of Lexington, Kentucky! Here’s a big shout-out to all of you who turned up to show some love and care to our local students. For those who missed it, a brilliant thing happened on Saturday, Aug. 3. A school bus was parked at the Paul Miller Ford dealership waiting to be packed to the brim with school donations, and boy, did you deliver!

The beginning of the new school year is coming up fast, with Fayette County Public Schools all set to welcome their students back on Aug. 14. And what better way to gear up for it than supporting our students with some brand-new school supplies?

What Went Down?

Well, our local radio station heroes, Cumulus Broadcasting, took on the responsibility of hosting this year’s “Stuff the Bus” event. With the event held at the dealership, Lexington was invited to turn up and ‘stuff’ the bus with school supplies. And stuff the bus, you did! From pencils and paper to books and binders, the rows of seats became towers of generosity.

As always, the aim of the game was to keep our young’uns well-equipped for the school year, so they can bring their best selves into the classrooms every day. “We are here to help support our families and our children at Fayette County Public Schools by, literally, stuffing this school bus,” said the FCPS family and community engagement liaison.

Why It Matters?

A national survey held this year revealed that families with kids going from elementary through to high school are planning to spend over $870 on clothes, school supplies, and electronics. That ain’t pocket change, right? So, this marvelous event is all about making sure that every kid can step into their school feeling ready and excited, regardless of their family’s financial situation.

“It’s really important that we don’t leave kids behind, just because their parents might not have the financial stability to purchase all these things because it is expensive. It’s very expensive when you get all the supplies that they need and some people just don’t have it.” explained the promotions director of Cumulus Broadcasting.

Not a One-off

For those who couldn’t make it, don’t sweat it! The district accepts donations throughout the school year to keep providing students with the supplies they need. You can always chip in through their Amazon Wishlist, or go straight to their website to make a monetary donation.

Looking Forward

As we count down to the new school year, let’s not forget that being prepared is half the battle won. So, here’s to the “Stuff the Bus” event, the start of new beginnings, and to a brilliant new school year for our students, full of learning, growth, and success!
