Tragic Car Accident Claims Lives of Judge’s Granddaughter and Infant Great-Granddaughter in Michigan

Lexington, Kentucky – The family of Central Kentucky Court of Appeals Judge Pamela Goodwine is mourning the tragic loss of her granddaughter, 19-year-old Journee Padgett, and her infant great-granddaughter, Alanee Grace, who died in a car accident in Michigan on Tuesday.

Goodwine shared the news through a heartfelt post on social media, expressing her inability to comprehend the loss. “I can hardly believe they’re gone,” she wrote, emphasizing the deep sorrow experienced by her family. “Our whole family is absolutely heartbroken and devastated.”

Journee Padgett, described by Goodwine as possessing a “kind heart” and “strength”, had her daughter, Alanee, earlier this year. Goodwine reflected on the profound joy they brought into the family and the world, stating that their memories will remain cherished forever.

In light of the tragic circumstances, a family friend has initiated a GoFundMe page to assist with the funeral expenses for Padgett and her child. This community support highlights the collective grief felt by their loved ones.

Goodwine, who has dedicated 25 years to public service including roles on Fayette Circuit and Fayette District Courts, is currently in the midst of a campaign for the Kentucky Supreme Court. Following the accident, she and her campaign team have canceled immediate events as they navigate their grief.

In a show of solidarity, Goodwine’s opponent in the Supreme Court race, Lexington attorney Erin Izzo, extended her condolences on social media. Izzo remarked, “In moments such as these, our human bonds transcend politics and campaigns.”

The devastating accident has drawn attention not only to the personal loss faced by Goodwine’s family but also to the broader community, fostering an outpouring of support across political lines as people come together in the face of tragedy.

Details surrounding the accident have not been disclosed, and further updates are anticipated as the family processes this tremendous loss. Community members, friends, and family alike are encouraged to keep Judge Goodwine and her family in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
