Lexington, KY – In the stirring atmosphere of a beautiful Saturday morning, a gleeful buzz of excited, wagging tails filled the annual Mutt Strut event, aiming to raise funds for the Lexington Humane Society. The venue resonated with the playful barking and carefree frolics of numerous tail-wagging pals joining forces to support a cause close to their heart.
Lauren Celdran, one of the proud owners who took part in the Mutt Strut, shared her delightful journey with her adopted dog, Rue. Adopted in August, Rue initially shied away from interaction, but Lauren’s persistent efforts paid off, shaping their relationship into a robust bond that spelled nothing but joy.
“When I come home from work, I first seek to embrace her,” Lauren glowingly shared. The sight of Rue, waggly and wobbly on the couch as she walks through the door, is a pure essence of happiness for her.
Lexington Humane Society, the nurturing ground for over 450 animals, is striving diligently towards ensuring that many more people get a chance to experience the kind of happiness Lauren shares with Rue.
“Every day, it seems like we have adoptions, but the very next day, there are more dogs,” explained Meghan Hawkins, the director of community engagement for the Lexington Humane Society. Due to their unwavering commitment, they never turn away any animal, backed by the robust support from their community.
Lauren fervently advocates the power of adoption, drawing from her transformative experience with Rue. “It’s remarkable how much bringing a dog into your home can transform your life while changing theirs simultaneously. The impact is profound on both ends,” she underscored.
To facilitate this mutual transformation, the Lexington Humane Society has currently reduced, and in some instances, entirely waived adoption fees to help more dogs find their forever homes through Sunday.
