Arrest Made in Homicide of Local Activist Quaynell King in Lexington

Lexington authorities have made an arrest in connection with the December 1 homicide of local activist Quaynell King, who was shot on Versailles Road. Tiquan Anderson, a 20-year-old male, was taken into custody on Wednesday and faces charges of murder, first-degree wanton endangerment, and first-degree criminal mischief, according to the Lexington Police Department.

The police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 8:44 p.m. on that evening. King soon arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, as confirmed by the Fayette County coroner’s office.

King, 44, was a well-regarded figure in the community, known for his tireless advocacy and support for those in need. Friends described him as a man who would go to great lengths to help others, including giving away his own belongings. “He would do anything to help his neighbors,” remarked his friend Trevor Claiborn.

Leandra Forman, executive director of the nonprofit FoodChain, highlighted King’s impact on the community. She stated, “He was a continuous fighter for justice and opportunities for his neighborhood.” Forman recalled their collaborations on several service projects in the Smithtown and Coolavin area, emphasizing King’s dedication and work ethic.

The investigation into King’s death shocked the community, marking it as Lexington’s second homicide of that weekend. Anderson is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center as the legal proceedings unfold.

As the community mourns the loss of King, who is remembered as “a Lexington legend,” local leaders continue to advocate for safety and justice, hoping to honor his legacy through ongoing service and activism.
