Lexington Launches Annual Good Giving Challenge
Lexington has officially kicked off its annual Good Giving Challenge, a four-day online fundraising event aimed at bolstering support for local nonprofits. The initiative, launched by the Blue Grass Community Foundation, Smiley Pete Publishing, and the city, runs from December 3 to December 6, coinciding with the national Giving Tuesday.
This year marks the 13th iteration of the challenge, which has raised over $23 million for local organizations since its inception in 2011. In 2022, the event saw remarkable participation, with 11,797 donors contributing $2.67 million to 195 local nonprofits. Organizers have set an ambitious goal of raising $3 million this year.
The challenge aims to encourage charitable giving within the community, with several foundations stepping in to provide matching funds and incentives. For instance, the Murray Foundation has pledged $100,000 to match donations on a pro rata basis throughout the challenge.
Special bonuses and prizes are available on most days during the event, providing additional motivation for donors to give. Organizers note that contributions made before the year’s end can be deducted from income taxes, emphasizing the importance of timely donations for tax benefits.
Participants can find detailed information on how to give and a list of nonprofit organizations at www.bggives.org. This crucial event not only assists local nonprofits but also fosters community engagement and philanthropy, with organizers urging residents to support this vital cause.
As the giving season approaches, the Good Giving Challenge stands as a beacon of hope, encouraging Lexington residents to make a difference in their community by supporting local organizations in need.
