Lexington Announces 2024 Fourth of July Plans
Lexington’s Fourth of July 2024 festivities revealed by Mayor Linda Gorton
Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton has unveiled plans for the city’s 2024 Fourth of July celebrations. The city’s festivities are set to include an array of events, ranging from the traditional Independence Day parade, to a market festival, run, and fireworks show.
Independence Day Parade and Celebrations
The Independence Day parade is a highlight of Lexington’s Fourth of July celebrations. This year, it will commence through downtown Lexington at noon on July 4. The parade will feature a diverse array of floats, marching bands, and groups representing various community organizations.
Following the parade, the city will host a market festival. This atmospheric event is the perfect place for locals and visitors alike to enjoy a variety of food, arts and crafts, and live music entertainment.
Fireworks Display
As with every Fourth of July in Lexington, a spectacular fireworks show will light up the night sky. Scheduled to start at 10 p.m., the fireworks will launch from R. J. Corman’s railyard, near the corner of Oliver Lewis Way and West Main Street. The dazzling display is a longstanding Lexington tradition and a fitting close to the day’s celebrations.
Pre-Fourth of July Festivities
Gorton announced that Fourth of July events will kick off before July 4 with an ice cream social scheduled for July 1 at Centennial Park. This get-together will provide an opportunity for community members to socialize while enjoying a chilled treat to beat the summer heat.
Concert Series
Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, concerts will be held at Moondance Amphitheater on July 2 and Gratz Park near Transylvania University on July 3. The concerts will feature a selection of local bands and artists covering an array of musical genres to cater to a broad spectrum of tastes.
Summer Nights in Suburbia
To round off the festivities, a jazz performance with a “Red, White & Blues” theme will be held at Moondance Amphitheater on July 5. This concert is part of the city’s “Summer Nights in Suburbia” concert series.
Lexington Mayor reiterated, “We’re bringing back all the favorites.”, reminding residents that the city is keen on keeping its traditions alive.
