Lexington Fire Department Welcomes 19 New Firefighters After Successful Graduation Ceremony

Lexington, Ky. — The Lexington Fire Department celebrated the graduation of 19 new firefighters on Thursday, marking the successful completion of a rigorous 26-week recruit training academy. This occasion symbolizes each recruit’s commitment to serve and protect their community.

Training Battalion Chief Shane Poynter expressed pride in the new graduates, stating, “Graduating from the recruit academy marks the culmination of each recruit’s hard work and dedication to become firefighters.”

The recruits were trained in several vital areas, including certifications in Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), Firefighter 1 and 2, and Hazardous Material Awareness and Operations. Graduates will enter the field with the rank of Probationary Firefighter, entering a one-year probationary period.

During the probation period, these firefighters will continue to enhance their skills and knowledge through ongoing training. They will also prepare for various tests related to their duties as part of the Lexington Fire Department.

This graduation is a significant milestone for both the individuals and the department, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining a well-trained and prepared firefighting force in Lexington.
