Fire Engulfs Duplex in Lexington, Extensive Damage Reported but No Injuries Confirmed

Lexington experienced a significant fire incident on Tuesday night, December 10, as emergency services responded to a duplex fire on Norway Street. Fire crews from the Lexington Fire Department were dispatched at approximately 10:22 p.m. to a report of a structure ablaze.

Upon arrival, Battalion Chief Keven Austin noted that the left side of the duplex was engulfed in heavy flames. The fire rapidly progressed into the attic, posing a dangerous situation. Fortunately, both apartments were vacant at the time, preventing any potential injuries. However, the fire caused extensive damage to the left side of the duplex, which has been deemed a total loss. The right side of the structure suffered only smoke damage.

As fire crews diligently worked to control the situation, they managed to knock down the majority of the flames. Ongoing efforts were focused on extinguishing lingering hot spots to ensure that the fire did not reignite.

Currently, the cause of the fire remains unknown; however, it has been confirmed that both sides of the duplex were undergoing renovations. Investigations into the origins of the fire are expected to follow as safety officials assess the scene.

This incident underscores the critical nature of fire safety, particularly during renovation efforts, and the swift response of the Lexington Fire Department has been pivotal in mitigating further damage.

The situation is still developing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
