New Market, Restaurant and Events Venue Set to Enrich Lexington’s Distillery District

Introduction

Lexington’s vibrant Distillery District is all set to welcome a distinguished Ohio-based company, Mazunte. Bringing its successful amalgamation of a bodega, restaurant, and event venue to the region, Mazunte is scheduled to open this new enterprise later this month at 903 Manchester Street.

From A Single Taqueria to Multi-Faceted Ventures

Mazunte, which made its debut in the food industry with a single Taqueria restaurant in 2013 north of Cincinnati, evolved into a multi-faceted food and restaurant company over time. To expand their services beyond dine-in, Mazunte later introduced a commissary kitchen called Mercado at the same location.

Key Contributors to Mazunte’s Success

Josh Sobeck, Mazunte’s internal project manager, attributes some of their resilience during the Covid pandemic to Mercado, with its ready-made, to-go pickup facility. Mazunte added another feather to its cap with the inauguration of Centro, located downtown, about four years ago.

Shaping a Unique Identity for Each New Venture

Despite operating multiple outlets, Mazunte has succeeded in establishing each one with a distinct concept, encapsulating different elements derived from its locality. This attribute will be mirrored in the Lexington venture as well, as it aims to become an integral part of the community while adding its unique flavor to the Distillery District diversity.

A Haven for Mazunte’s “Greatest Hits”

Mazunte’s upcoming entity in Lexington, termed Mazunte Bodega, promises to offer a rich platter of the company’s most revered dishes and products from its three establishments. Just past the welcoming entrance, guests will be greeted by an inviting range of grab-and-go products, echoing the ambiance of a traditional bodega. Further inside, the expansive bar and counter would serve appetizing meals, including breakfast items.

Hosting Events in Style

An adjacent 13,000-square-foot event space, christened La Brasa Events Venue, has already hosted its first event in early March. With in-house catering and partnerships with several other renowned catering companies, La Brasa is poised to become a preferred choice for hosting different types of events and gatherings.

Creating Memorable Experiences

Leah M. Thomas, LaBrasa’s sales and events director, talks about the roles of Mazunte’s different locations stating, “Mazunte is the mothership, and the Bodega and La Brasa are like siblings: different businesses but all playing together to create stellar experiences for the clients and community.” Visitors can expect a relaxing and casual environment, along with the chance to buy top-selling products like their guacamole and salsa verde.

Looking Forward

Intrigued patrons are invited to tour the event space throughout March and April. Thomas believes that the new venue will transform the distillery district into an even more attractive destination by offering flexible pricing, vendors, and events. The anticipation of Mazunte Bodega’s imminent opening is definitely stirring excitement within the Lexington community.
