Lexington Catholic High School Launches Scholarship Fund in Honor of Father Norman Fischer

Lexington, Ky. – Lexington Catholic High School has launched a new scholarship fund to honor the legacy of Father Norman Fischer, a respected spiritual leader in the community. Announced on Monday, the initiative aims to provide financial support to students, particularly from underserved communities, as a tribute to Father Fischer’s commitment to service and inclusivity.

Father Fischer served at the school and St. Peter Claver Catholic Church for nearly two decades before his untimely passing over four months ago. Rob Rumpke, the school’s president, reflected on the continued influence of Father Fischer, stating, “It is a healing process every day.” The school community still feels his presence through core values that he developed with Rumpke prior to his death.

The newly established Father Norman Fund is launched in conjunction with the ‘I Give Catholic’ fundraising campaign, which commenced on Monday and will continue until December 3. Rumpke hopes to support 30 students in its inaugural year, with the recipients being designated as Fischer Scholars.

This scholarship fund not only honors Father Fischer’s memory but also aligns with his vision of accessibility and support for students from diverse backgrounds. As the first priest of both African American and Filipino heritages in the Catholic Diocese of Lexington, Father Fischer dedicated his ministry to uniting the community through faith. According to his sister, Maria Fischer-Boothe, “We can recognize that our faith tells us we are all one.”

On the opening day of the fundraising efforts, Rumpke noted the strong initial support, including a $5,000 donation to the fund. He expressed hope that the generosity shown so far will continue to help embody the spirit of Father Fischer, which inspired many during his ministry. “One person was walking through the halls preaching Christianity – now, we’ve got hundreds of people doing that,” Rumpke remarked, emphasizing the transformative impact Father Fischer had on the school community.

As the scholarship campaign progresses, donations will play a vital role in empowering the next generation of students to achieve their educational goals, reflecting the values instilled by Father Norman Fischer throughout his life. To support the efforts surrounding this scholarship and the ongoing fundraising campaign, interested individuals are encouraged to contribute to the cause.
