Koi Express Permanently Closes Its Doors in Lexington After Short Operation Period

LEXINGTON — Koi Express, a restaurant that opened earlier this year at 3029 Richmond Road, has permanently closed its doors as of November 6. A sign displayed on the restaurant’s entrance expressed gratitude towards its patrons, stating, “We are deeply grateful for your support and patronage. Thank you for being a part of our journey. With gratitude, Koi Express.”

The closure of Koi Express follows a challenging trajectory for owner Sinta Tjahjadi, who previously operated another restaurant, The Saucy Crab, in the same location until it closed at the end of 2023 after approximately two years of service. Both establishments occupied the former site of a Texas Roadhouse, which relocated across Richmond Road.

Despite the Lexington location’s shuttering, Koi Express continues to operate in other regions, including London, Frankfort, Somerset, and Mount Sterling. The specific reasons for the Lexington branch’s closure remain unclear, as Tjahjadi has not responded to requests for comment.

The future of the space is uncertain, and it is yet to be announced what will occupy the former Koi Express location, situated conveniently near a Kroger Marketplace just inside Man o’ War.

This development has stirred discussions about the restaurant landscape in Lexington, as diners reflect on the turnover of newer establishments in the area. The closing of Koi Express highlights the challenges faced by restaurants in a competitive market, particularly those attempting to establish themselves in a former dining space.

For food enthusiasts and those interested in dining news, updates regarding the Kentucky culinary scene—including bourbon-related insights—will continue as the community keeps an eye on upcoming openings and closures.
