Lexington, Ky. — In the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastating impact on the southeastern United States, two women from Kentucky have taken it upon themselves to aid recovery efforts. Jennifer Davis and Kelsey Doyle are organizing a support mission, repurposing what was originally meant to be a birthday celebration into a meaningful supply drive aimed at assisting those affected in East Tennessee and Western North Carolina.
Doyle emphasized the urgent need for action, stating, “I could not help sit there any longer seeing the pictures, the videos, and hear the stories of what was happening to the people there and not do anything.” Their mission has gained significant traction; they have already amassed enough donations to fill a box truck, with plans to gather more supplies as contributions continue to pour in.
Davis stressed the importance of every donation, regardless of the size, noting that even a small contribution can make a difference. “Even if someone can only afford 16 dollars. That 16 dollars can buy a box of diapers,” she said, highlighting the critical needs facing those impacted by the storm.
The pair aims to send a message of solidarity to hurricane survivors. “It makes them feel not alone,” Davis said, pointing out the power of community support in difficult times. Doyle, who previously responded to the Eastern Kentucky floods, understands the urgency of the need for supplies in affected areas. She stated, “We have to step up and help them. These people are trying to survive.”
While the women are committed to their cause, they also pledge to maintain transparency regarding their operations. Updates on donations, expenditures, and the planned drop-off locations will be regularly shared on their Facebook page.
Donations can be delivered to Kentucky Autobody Supplies, located at 1230 Winchester Road in Lexington, on Tuesday, October 8 from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and on Wednesday, October 9 from 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM. The organizers are particularly seeking essential items such as non-perishable food, toiletries, and baby supplies.
