Kentucky Schools Face Threat Evacuations: Three Affected Across the State
Three schools across the state of Kentucky were subjected to threat situations on Thursday morning, causing a wave of concern and distress amongst staff, students, and parents. This string of threats triggered evacuations and investigations by local law enforcement, temporarily disrupting daily school activities.
A Bomb Threat Sparks Action
In response to an anonymous bomb threat reported via phone call, officials at Glendover Elementary School took swift action to ensure the safety of both students and staff. Following established protocol, the entire school building was immediately evacuated and all those present were transported to a designated safe location to await further instructions
After completing a thorough check of the premises, the law enforcement officials determined that it was safe to lift the alarm. Despite this, the afternoon preschool session was subsequently cancelled as a precaution.
A Suspected Swatting Incident Triggers Evacuation
Kingston Elementary and Madison Southern High School also found themselves targets of a different kind of threat on the same day. According to local law enforcement, the schools received what were believed to be ‘swatting’ calls. Oxford Languages defines ‘swatting’ as a prank call to emergency services designed to trigger the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address.
Upon receiving a suspicious call, Kingston Elementary took similar action to Glendover Elementary and relocated the students to a nearby church while the school premises were inspected by police. Once the authorities declared the scene to be safe, students were allowed to return.
Entire District Placed on Lock-out
Meanwhile, Brodhead Elementary school was also evacuated due to a similar swatting call. To ensure the safety of all its students, Rockcastle County Schools made the decision to enact a district-wide “lock-out,” further emphasizing the level of concern these threats have aroused within the local communities.
All students were confirmed to be safe and subsequently returned to their classrooms once the lock-out was lifted.
Investigations Are Ongoing
Although the precise origins and seriousness of these threats are yet to be determined, it’s clear that they’ve served to shake local communities. Local law enforcement agencies have prioritized these investigations to ensure the safety of school students in these institutions.
As of now, there have been no indications of any injuries or fatalities as a result of these threats, all of which appear to have been false alarms. The situation is still developing, and further information is expected to be released by the investigating bodies soon.
