Intense Training for Frontline Heroes

In the life-saving profession of paramedics, every second counts immensely. Beyond the adrenaline-induced emergency situations, even the seconds that paramedics are not on the front lines of their shifts holds substantial significance. To enhance these crucial moments, the CHI St. Joseph Hospital is providing cutting-edge training designed to elevate the paramedics to the apex of their profession.

Austin Roush, market director of CHI St. Joseph, emphasized the significance of this initiative. He said, “What we do is provide a course that is advanced skills and knowledge. We just get a chance to elevate paramedics to the apex of their profession.”

A Collaboration to Enhance Expertise

The training is a collaborative endeavor, as posited by Melissa Bennett, COO and CNE for St. Joseph Health. “Taking paramedics, getting them the training that they need, and partnering is just the perfect match“, Melissa said. This immersive training has drawn 20 local first responders from 7 different agencies for a three-day stint to practice and master the procedures they’ll be faced with in crisis situations.

Rewinding the Learnings

Among the group of attendees is Trey Booth, a Jessamine County paramedic, who is currently learning different ventilation techniques. Despite having his education from EKU, he acknowledges that certain inevitable gaps persist in the critical care knowledge. This training at the hospital is pivotal in bridging those gaps. He stated, “I went to school at EKU, but there’s definitely still some gaps even with critical care knowledge, and learning that within a hospital is kind of pivotal“.

Persistent Commitment Towards Excellence

The dedication towards enhancing the proficiency of the paramedics in Lexington does not wane after the end of this three-day training. CHI St. Joseph Hospital is committed to holding such training twice a year, assuring that all of central Kentucky has the best-trained people working with them in emergencies. Seeing the paramedics perform the skills is exciting and rewarding, as conveyed by Melissa Bennett. She exclaimed, “Seeing them do the skills, it’s exciting, it’s rewarding“.
