The proposal envisions EKU enrolling its first batch of medical students in the fall of 2028, with their first class slated to graduate in the spring of 2032. The enthusiasm for the program is evident, as it has attracted support from 16 Republican co-sponsors in the House.

These legislative actions follow recommendations from a Deloitte Consulting study commissioned by the General Assembly last year. As new educational programs emerge, House Bill 118 is also on the scene. This bill would allow Western Kentucky University (WKU) to offer doctoral research programs, helping the university achieve its goal of attaining “R2” status among research institutions. The initial focus will be on data sciences, signifying a step towards enhancing WKU’s research capabilities.

House Bill 55, sponsored by Representative Kim Banta, proposes new measures holding parents accountable for any harm inflicted by weapons in the possession of minors.
