June 20 Marks Safe Kids Day in Lexington
Every year, Safe Kids Day is enthusiastically looked forward to by families and community organizations alike. The momentous event, scheduled to take place on June 20, continues to serve as a means to raise public awareness about child injury prevention. This free event, welcoming all members of the public, will be held at Gainesway Park, Tates Creek Community Center from 4-7 p.m.
Prioritizing Safety During Summer
Safe Kids Fayette County coordinator, Sherri Hannan, enlightened on the importance of the event, “The season between June 1st and August 31st is known as the ‘100 deadliest days of summer’. Education and awareness are the first steps in preventing accidents and injuries, particularly during outdoor activities like swimming, biking, and walking. These precautions can significantly reduce the risk of incidents and ensure that children can enjoy their summer break safely.”
Interactive Learning Experiences
Teeming with safety experts and medical providers, the event will offer participants a range of informative demonstrations. The educational activities include car seat installation inspection, water safety advice, guidance on handling house fires, helmet fittings, bike safety rodeo, and procedures to obtain a child ID. In addition to learning, the event promises family fun with snacks, balloon animals, and face painting.
“We appreciate any opportunity to interact with the community and provide potentially lifesaving information,” expressed Hannan. “We want kids to be active and play, and with an event like Safe Kids Day, we can demonstrate how they can enjoy their favorite activities safely.”

- Stay safe at poolside or beach
- Maintain safety while skating, riding skateboards, or bikes
- Celebrate Independence Day responsibly, especially with regard to fireworks
- Stay hydrated during summer gaming and sports events
- Learn and implement measures against heatstroke.
