Exciting Opportunities for Jessamine County Residents: Tire Amnesty and Fall Haul Events Coming Up!
Greetings, Jessamine County! It’s that time of year again when residents can come together to keep our community clean and green. Two fantastic events are on the horizon, offering free and easy ways for you to recycle those unwanted items. Whether you have old tires taking up space in your garage or hazardous household waste that needs disposal, you’ll want to mark your calendars!
Tire Amnesty Event: A Chance to Clear Out the Clutter
The first event is the much-anticipated “Tire Amnesty Event”, which many locals affectionately refer to as a tire collection extravaganza. Over the weekend of September 26 to 28, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the weekdays and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday, residents can drop off their tires at the convenient location of 260 Wilson Drive in Nicholasville.
According to Jessamine County Judge-Executive David West, not only is this event completely free of charge, but it also allows residents from all across Kentucky to participate. “Of course, we accept tires year-round, but there’s a small charge,” he explains. Thanks to a grant from the Kentucky Division of Waste Management, this event ensures that those who missed similar events in their counties can still properly dispose of their tires.
Last year’s turnout was impressive, with the county recycling about 27,836 tires during the event! Residents can bring on- or off-rim tires, including those from cars, bikes, trucks, and even farm equipment. However, foam-filled, calcium-filled, and off-road construction tires won’t be accepted, so make sure to sort your tires before dropping them off. Just a note: tire retailers and recycling facilities aren’t allowed to participate, keeping the event exclusive to personal use.
Get Ready for the Fall Haul
Just when you thought the excitement of the Tire Amnesty Event couldn’t get any better, Jessamine County has another event lined up for you! On October 26, 2024, the Jessamine County Resident Exclusive Fall Haul offers another opportunity for residents to dispose of hazardous household waste completely free of charge. This event runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jessamine County Convenience Center located at 123 Hendren Way, also in Nicholasville.
It’s important to note that only residents of Jessamine County can participate in this event, and no commercial hazardous waste will be accepted. So, what can you drop off? Well, items like paint, paint thinner, antifreeze, pesticides, and various cleaners are all fair game. Last year, the Fall Haul collected an impressive 12.10 tons of hazardous materials, which were then recycled, keeping our environment safer!
But beware of what you can’t bring. Items like propane cylinders, shingles, drywall, and standard household waste won’t make the cut. So, double-check your items before heading to the drop-off!
A Year-Round Resource
For those who can’t make it to these special events, remember that the Jessamine County Convenience Center is open year-round. You can drop off car, truck, and tractor tires (up to 300 pounds), electronics, and many other materials, although there’re some costs involved. Just keep in mind that regular household garbage, food scraps, and some construction materials are not accepted.
So, mark your calendars, gather up those tires and hazardous items, and prepare to help keep Jessamine County beautiful! It’s a wonderful opportunity to ensure that we’re all doing our part for the environment while getting rid of unwanted waste in a responsible manner.
