HISA Launches Innovative Tool Horse In-Sight to Enhance Horse Health and Safety in Racing

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA) has unveiled a groundbreaking digital tool designed for regulatory veterinarians in the horse racing industry. Named Horse In-Sight, this tool provides a comprehensive overview of a horse’s health and performance, encompassing its entire career and medical history.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, showcasing the innovative approach to equine health management. Horse In-Sight utilizes a sophisticated graphical interface to chart a horse’s career, mapping high-speed furlongs over time, incorporating data from races, workouts, and scratches.

One of the primary features of Horse In-Sight is its ability to filter and analyze various aspects of a horse’s medical treatment and performance history. The tool allows veterinarians to view specific outcomes of injuries, treatment types, and the horse’s status on veterinary lists. It also includes a Race Day tab that enables comparisons among multiple horses, providing insights into the use of injections and injury occurrences.

This new resource is an extension of existing data methods that aim to identify horses at risk of injury before they enter the racing arena. According to HISA, the In-Sight tool empowers regulatory veterinarians to make timely and informed decisions, ultimately enhancing the health and welfare of horses involved in the sport.

HISA CEO Lisa Lazarus emphasized the importance of this technological advancement, describing it as a “significant leap forward” in terms of equine care and safety. Lazarus noted that the introduction of Horse In-Sight reflects the authority’s ongoing commitment to leveraging innovation for improved animal welfare in horse racing.

The availability of this tool marks a pivotal moment in the industry, as it underscores the necessity of utilizing data to safeguard the well-being of horses and promote safer racing environments. With regulatory agencies like HISA leading the charge, the future of equine health management looks promising.
