Lexington, KY – Holiday season catering is ramping up in Lexington as businesses prepare for one of their busiest times of the year. The community is turning to two local favorites: Seasons Catering and Daughters’ Southern, each bringing unique dishes and services to the table.
Seasons Catering, owned by Kellie and chef Michael Stoddart, has been a mainstay in the area for 26 years. Located at 333 N. Ashland Ave., they specialize in a variety of catered events, providing everything from boxed lunches to elaborate holiday party spreads. This season, they have exceeded last year’s orders and have already closed dates for Christmas events. “We always try to give 110%, but you can’t be in 10 places at a time,” Kellie noted, emphasizing the importance of returning customers, who are given priority for rebooking.
The increasing food costs have been challenging this year. “Lettuce and tomatoes are at an all-time high right now,” Kellie explained, stating that a case of lettuce now costs close to $100, double the price from last year. While some customers understand the price hike, others are taken aback. The Stoddarts continue to focus on maintaining their marketing by reaching out to their existing clientele and relying on referrals.
On the other hand, Daughters’ Southern, owned by chef Chris Cain, operates as a food truck traveling to various events since 2016. Their primary offerings this season include precooked holiday meals and private lunches. Despite the colder weather slowing some business, Cain reported that the number of requests remains stable compared to previous years. “Budgets aren’t increasing with the times,” he stated, noting that he often receives inquiries from clients with limited budgets. His social media presence is being ramped up this year to attract new customers.
The holiday season can leverage future business. According to Cain, success will be determined in January based on how many spring and summer events they book as a direct result of holiday parties. “Someone will say, ‘My daughter’s getting married, I need you to come do the rehearsal dinner.’” he explained, illustrating the potential for future bookings.
As catering demands peak in Lexington, both Seasons Catering and Daughters’ Southern are navigating rising food costs while striving to deliver exceptional service. With a mix of established clientele and strategic marketing moves, these local businesses are poised for a successful holiday season.
