LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA) has launched a new digital tool designed to enhance the regulation of horse racing by providing regulatory veterinarians with a comprehensive view of a horse’s health and performance history. The tool, named Horse In-Sight, was announced on Tuesday and aims to improve horse welfare across the sport.
This innovative platform visually represents a horse’s career through high-speed furlongs recorded over time, detailing their races, workouts, and any scratches due to injury. It allows veterinarians to filter data for specific treatments, injury outcomes, and the horse’s status on the veterinary list. Additionally, the tool includes a Race Day tab that enables comparisons across multiple horses, providing insights into injections and injuries.
HISA emphasizes that Horse In-Sight builds on existing data collection methods, enabling stakeholders to identify horses at risk for injury prior to racing. This proactive approach is intended to empower regulatory veterinarians to make timely and informed decisions, ultimately enhancing the health and welfare of racehorses.
HISA CEO Lisa Lazarus described the introduction of this technology as a “significant leap forward” for equine care and safety. She underlined the authority’s commitment to utilizing innovation to improve the sport for both horses and their connections.
The launch of Horse In-Sight reflects a growing trend within the horse racing industry to adopt advanced technological solutions for enhancing oversight and care. As the sport faces increasing scrutiny regarding animal welfare, tools like this are essential in ensuring that both horse and rider are protected.
This new initiative represents HISA’s ongoing efforts to create a safer environment for equine athletes by equipping veterinarians with the necessary data to support their critical role on race day and throughout a horse’s career.
