Keeneland Race Course Celebrates Heroes Day Honoring Military, First Responders, and Healthcare Workers

LEXINGTON, Ky. – On Sunday, Keeneland Race Course celebrated its annual ‘Heroes Day,’ honoring active military personnel, veterans, first responders, police officers, firefighters, and healthcare workers with a complimentary day at the races. The event, designed to recognize the significant contributions and sacrifices of these heroes, attracted over a thousand attendees.

Kara Heissenbuttel, the Senior Director of Community Relations at Keeneland, emphasized the importance of the event. “Here at Keeneland, we employ a lot of veterans,” Heissenbuttel stated. “It’s just a sense of pride for everybody to be able to say thank you and recognize those folks and the sacrifices that they make.” This sentiment resonated throughout the crowd as attendees enjoyed various activities, including free food provided by City BBQ.

The festivities reached a climactic moment at 3 PM when the Henry Clay JROTC unveiled a flag on the race track. The audience joined Dr. Everett McCorvey in a heartfelt rendition of ‘God Bless America,’ reinforcing the patriotic spirit of the day.

This year’s ‘Heroes Day’ served as a powerful reminder of the community’s gratitude toward those who serve and protect. Keeneland’s commitment to honoring these individuals not only highlights the organization’s deep ties to the military and emergency services but also fosters a greater sense of community among the attendees.

Such events underscore the significance of recognizing and appreciating the hard work and sacrifices made by those in service to the nation and the community. As this year’s Heroes Day concludes, it leaves behind a lasting impact and a renewed commitment to honoring these essential members of society.
