Heavy Rain Recedes in Lexington, Kentucky; Lingering Showers and Storms Anticipated for Thursday

Heavy Rain Exits With Lingering Showers and Storms Expected for Thursday

By: Dillon Gaudet

Late on Wednesday, Lexington, Kentucky witnessed a considerable degree of downpour which is expected to draw to a close through the early morning hours of Thursday. Despite the anticipated end to this heavy rainfall, it’s predicted that southern Kentucky will still experience lingering showers and isolated thunderstorms.

No Recent Reports of Flash Flooding

The last two days have seen southern Kentucky receive a substantial 2-4 inches of rainfall. However, as of now, there have been no reports of flash flooding in the most affected areas of far southern Kentucky. Local residents are advised to be aware of high-running creeks and streams throughout the first part of the day.

Afternoon Holds Risk of Severe Storms

A passing cold front later in the day could bring about a few strong-to-severe storms during the afternoon and early evening hours. Currently, there’s a Level 1 Severe Risk in effect for areas north and east of Lexington. The primary threats posed by the storms are isolated occurrences of large hail and damaging wind gusts.

Temperature Drop Expected as Cold Front Passes

The temperature is expected to drop post the passage of the cold front. Most areas can anticipate struggling to reach mid-60s on Friday. Alongside cooler temperatures, chances of few isolated showers in the midday and afternoon remain.

More Cooler Temperatures and Rain Over the Weekend

Below-average temperatures extending to the start of the weekend might lead to slight rain showers and isolated storms on Saturday. Nonetheless, the community can look forward to a much welcomed break on Mother’s Day with the arrival of a high-pressure system across the region. This will result in dry conditions, clear skies, and seasonably cooler temperatures.

Return of Rain and Storm Chances Mid Next Week

Although the break from the rain will be much welcomed, locals are advised to gear up for a return of rain and storm chances by mid-next week. It’s crucial to stay tuned for essential updates during this time.

ABC 36 Hour Forecast

  • THURSDAY: Heavy morning rain exits with isolated PM showers and storms. Highs in the upper 70s.
  • THURSDAY NIGHT: Few showers and a storm or two early. Lows in the low 50s.
  • FRIDAY: Possibility of isolated showers coupled with cooler temperatures. Highs in the mid-60s.

Reminder to Stay Alert

Remember to adjust your daily schedules and routines accordingly, and stay alert to news updates and forecasts in order to stay safe and prepared during these constantly changing weather conditions.
