Heavy Rain Exits With Lingering Showers and Storms Expected for Thursday

Late on Wednesday, Lexington, Kentucky witnessed a considerable degree of downpour which is expected to draw to a close through the early morning hours of Thursday. Despite the anticipated end to this heavy rainfall, it’s predicted that southern Kentucky will still experience lingering showers and isolated thunderstorms.

No Recent Reports of Flash Flooding

The last two days have seen southern Kentucky receive a substantial 2-4 inches of rainfall. However, as of now, there have been no reports of flash flooding in the most affected areas of far southern Kentucky. Local residents are advised to be aware of high-running creeks and streams throughout the first part of the day.

Afternoon Holds Risk of Severe Storms

A passing cold front later in the day could bring about a few strong-to-severe storms during the afternoon and early evening hours. Currently, there’s a Level 1 Severe Risk in effect for areas north and east of Lexington. The primary threats posed by the storms are isolated occurrences of large hail and damaging wind gusts.

Temperature Drop Expected as Cold Front Passes

The temperature is expected to drop post the passage of the cold front. Most areas can anticipate struggling to reach mid-60s on Friday. Alongside cooler temperatures, chances of few isolated showers in the midday and afternoon remain.
