Lexington Set to Celebrate Halloween with Festive Events and Thrilling Parade This Weekend

Lexington, Kentucky – The fall season is in full swing, and Halloween festivities are set to captivate the city this weekend. Lexington Parks and Recreation has organized a variety of events aimed at celebrating the season and the spirit of Halloween.

Tonight marks the final installment of the “Freaky Flicks” movie series at the Moondance Amphitheater in Beaumont, featuring the animated film “The Corpse Bride.” This event initiates an exciting lineup for the weekend.

On Saturday, attendees can participate in “Carve and Chip’n,” where they will have the opportunity to carve their pumpkins with all the necessary tools provided. After carving, participants can leave their pumpkins at the venue to be displayed along the upcoming jack-o-lantern trail.

The weekend festivities will culminate on Sunday with the highly anticipated Halloween Festival and Parade. This event features various vendors, food options, and a small parade leading up to the main event, the “Thriller Parade.”

According to Amber Luallen, Superintendent of Arts and Events, the “Thriller Parade” has become a cornerstone of Halloween celebrations in Lexington. “It started about 20 years ago by the Mecca Dance Studio as a flash mob. It began at the Kentucky Theater and moved to the sidewalks down to Third Street,” she explained. The parade has since evolved from about 100 dancers and a small audience to a grand event that attracts 20,000 to 30,000 spectators annually.

Hailed as one of the top ten Halloween events in the United States, this parade is a significant draw, positioning Lexington nationally as a prime Halloween destination. Luallen expressed pride in the event’s growth and impact both locally and beyond, noting its recognition as a must-see celebration.

Community members are encouraged to join in the festivities and experience the fun this weekend. Whether it’s enjoying a spooky film, crafting a pumpkin, or reveling in the lively parade, there’s something for everyone as Halloween approaches.
