The University of Kentucky Opera Theatre (UKOT) has announced the return of the show-stopping music event, ‘It’s A Grand Night for Singing!’. The highly anticipated singing and dancing spectacle will run from June 7-16, at the Singletary Center for the Arts, bringing a fresh wave of musical entertainment to Lexington’s art scene.
Bringing together the best offerings from contemporary and classic Broadway, UKOT has built a reputation over 30 years for delivering a sublime combination of singing, dancing, and theatrical flair. The Emmy Award-winning summertime highlight currently stands as one of the most exhilarating shows in Lexington, promising an unforgettable experience for audience members of all ages.
The 2024 lineup has been crafted to offer a broad spectrum of musical delights. Contemporary Tony award-winning musical scores such as ‘Hadestown’ and ‘Shucked’ share the stage with timeless performances from ‘Carousel’, ‘South Pacific’, and ‘Gypsy’ to create an immersive event bound to leave attendees singing their favorite tunes all night long.
First launched in 1992 by the UK School of Music’s opera program to showcase the talent of its students, the show has now expanded to include more than 70 performers, complete with full orchestra, majestic sets, and costumes. The growing event emphasizes the partnership between the university and the Lexington community, fostering a space where students and local artists can share the limelight.
The show will take place at the Singletary Center Concert Hall, with reserved seating options. Ticket prices range from $20 for students to $65 for adults, available at SingletaryCenter.com, the venue’s contact number 859-257-4929, or in person at the venue. Valet parking, for $10 (excluding tip), is available for attendees in the Singletary Center circle on Rose Street.
To foster an engaging and social atmosphere, the College of Fine Arts extends its invitation to the Grand Night Tent and OperaLex Hospitality Zone. Opening 90 minutes before each performance, the hospitality segment offers complimentary snacks, soft drinks, and a cash bar. Attendees will also get a chance to meet the cast after the opening night on June 7 during the After Party in the Hospitality Tent.
