Governor Beshear Accelerates Mountain Parkway Expansion with $116.3 Million Federal Grant

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Andy Beshear announced on Wednesday that efforts are being intensified to expedite the completion of the Mountain Parkway expansion project. This initiative is backed by a significant federal grant of $116.3 million, aimed at advancing the overall $300 million undertaking.

The project includes the expansion of a vital 13-mile stretch of the parkway extending from Salyersville to Prestonsburg. This expansion is expected to enhance transportation efficiency and accessibility in the region, addressing long-standing infrastructure needs.

“We’re grateful for these federal dollars, which will help move us closer to the finish line on this promising and much-needed project,” stated Gov. Beshear. This funding is seen as a pivotal step in accelerating the timeline for the parkway’s completion.

The Mountain Parkway serves as a crucial link for residents and businesses, facilitating better access to markets, healthcare, and education. The expansion not only aims to improve travel times but is also anticipated to boost the local economy through enhanced connectivity.

As officials work to finalize plans and mobilize resources, the community is optimistic about the positive impacts this infrastructure development will bring. The project represents a significant investment in the future of eastern Kentucky’s transportation network, showcasing a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for local residents.

Detailed timelines for construction phases and potential impacts on traffic will be communicated as the project progresses. With additional funding secured, stakeholders are hopeful that this expansion will be completed in a timely manner, fulfilling the urgent demand for improved transportation in the region.
