Lexington, Kentucky – A local restaurant is making waves with its unique twist on a beloved breakfast staple. Beau’s Cafe, located in the Beaumont neighborhood, has risen to notable acclaim for its giant but fluffy buttermilk pancakes, measuring an impressive one and a quarter inches thick.
The cafe, opened about a year ago, aims to elevate breakfast options beyond typical chain offerings like Waffle House and IHOP. The pancakes, crafted with Weisenberger Mill flour, orange zest, homemade bourbon maple syrup, and whipped brown butter, stand out on the menu. Despite their significant size, chef and co-owner Spencer Sirles assures diners they are lighter than they appear.
“People are usually shocked by the size,” Sirles explained. “But once they taste them, they realize they’re surprisingly fluffy.” An order includes two pancakes for $13. The cooking process is meticulous, requiring approximately seven minutes on one side and three to four minutes after flipping.
Beau’s Cafe is not just recognized for its pancakes. Popular items also include a French omelet and a Dutch baby pancake, the latter of which is a rare find on local breakfast menus. The restaurant recently expanded its offerings with an evening menu focused on gourmet burgers, available from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
Sirles, who previously worked at notable Lexington establishments, envisions Beau’s Cafe as a top-tier breakfast and lunch spot. He aimed for a blend of aesthetic appeal and taste with the signature pancakes, which he says are created with a careful balance of baking powder, baking soda, and eggs to ensure the perfect rise.
Located at 3191 Beaumont Centre Circle, Beau’s Cafe operates every day from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for breakfast and lunch, with dinner served on specified evenings. While the breakfast burrito remains the most ordered item on the menu, the buttermilk pancakes have garnered significant attention, highlighting the cafe’s commitment to exceptional food.
In a market filled with breakfast choices, Beau’s Cafe stands out, blending creativity with quality ingredients for a truly delightful dining experience.
