Georgetown Celebrates Sister City Relationship with Tahara-Cho

Georgetown, KY is set to celebrate its enduring Sister City relationship with Tahara-Cho, Japan this month. The Georgetown/Scott County Museum has launched a special display highlighting the historical ties and cultural exchanges between the two cities.

Director Ruthie Stevens of the museum expressed enthusiasm about revisiting this international relationship. “When I first read the article about going back and revisiting the Sister City relationship, I thought this would be a good time for us to pull out some of our pictures,” she said. These pictures, she explained, document the beginnings of the local Toyota manufacturing plant, which has played a significant role in the community’s economic development.

Stevens collaborated with co-op student Steven Moore to set up the display, which features various “gifts” received from the Tahara-Cho community. “We pulled those out and put them on display because they are just an example of a positive relationship between the two cities,” she noted. This installation aims to educate visitors on the rich history of Georgetown’s partnership with Tahara-Cho.

The display will be available for public viewing throughout the month of October, coinciding with the anticipated visits from a delegation of visitors from Tahara-Cho. These guests are scheduled to arrive this weekend, as well as the weekend of October 12.

During their stay, the visitors will engage in various activities, including meetings with local officials, tours of Georgetown and surrounding areas, as well as visits to local schools and restaurants. This exchange continues to foster goodwill and understanding between the two communities, celebrating both the cultural and economic aspects of their relationship.

The Georgetown community is encouraged to participate and engage with the visiting delegation, further strengthening the ties that bind these two cities together.
