Georgetown, Kentucky — Phillip Pratt was honored as the Citizen of the Year during the Georgetown-Scott County Chamber of Commerce annual dinner held at the Marriott Griffin Gate in Lexington on December 10, 2024. Pratt, the owner of Pratt’s Lawn and Landscaping, expressed his surprise and gratitude upon receiving the award, acknowledging the significant contributions made by his employees that enabled his community service efforts.
Having spent over three decades in the landscaping business, Pratt has also served as a state representative for the past eight years, a role from which he has decided not to seek re-election. “I really appreciate my employees for picking up and running with it these last eight years while I had a lot on my plate,” Pratt noted. He highlighted the growth of his business, which began with himself and his sons mowing lawns on weekends and has now expanded to over 40 employees.
Alongside Pratt, other notable awards included the Frank Hamilton Business of the Year awarded to Leonard and Melinda Bredwood, and Non-Profit of the Year awarded to Carin For Nurses. Will Clay was recognized as Young Professional of the Year, while Rosemary Allen received the Woman of the Year accolade. Additionally, the Jim Reid Community Award was presented to Heather Johnson and the Gathering Place, and Oser Floors & More with Larry Oser were named Business of the Year. Jacob and Megan Sharpe of HomeGrown Direct received the Small Business of the Year Award, and Christy Rock was honored with the Ambassador of the Year award.
Pratt described his recognition as an unexpected honor and reflected on the dedication of his team in contributing to both his business and the local community. His commitment to service and leadership stands out as a testament to the collaborative spirit of Georgetown’s residents and businesses.
The Chamber Dinner not only celebrated individual achievements but also highlighted the importance of recognizing civic contributions and business success in the community.
