Garth Elementary School Honors Veterans with Special Breakfast and Performances on Veterans Day

Georgetown, Ky. — On Veterans Day, Garth Elementary School hosted a special breakfast and performance to honor veterans, inviting the parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents of its students. The event aimed to express gratitude and respect for the sacrifices made by those who served in the military.

Retired Air Force Technical Sergeant Peter Williams reflected on the importance of veterans’ contributions, stating, “It was great to have my grandson think enough of me to invite me to this. A lot of young folks today don’t know what we’ve done for this country.”

During the event, the School Resource Officer educated students on how to properly present the colors. The fifth graders also performed the National Anthem as well as another song emphasizing unity, captivating both veterans and guests.

Navy veteran Robert Meade, who attended with his great-grandchild, noted the significance of children’s involvement. “It is a big deal to get children to participate in activities regardless of what it is, especially on vets’ day,” he remarked. He further added, “Really nice to have people recognize vets for the services we performed and sacrifices we made.”

Williams expressed hope that the students would learn an essential lesson about America. “America, even with all of her problems, is still one of the greatest countries in the world to live in. We have more freedoms in this country than any country in the world,” he asserted.

Fifth grader Jaydenn Overhiser articulated appreciation for veterans, saying, “They risked their lives for our freedom and safety.” This sentiment echoed throughout the gathering, highlighting the community’s commitment to honoring those who have served.

The event underlined the strong bond between the school community and local veterans, showcasing a valuable opportunity for students to learn about history and appreciation through direct interaction with those who have dedicated their lives to service.
