RICHMOND, MADISON CO. — Two and a half years have passed since the tragic shooting death of Jordan Wesley Morgan during a home invasion at her family’s residence. The man accused of the crime, Shannon Gilday, is set to face trial on May 2025, yet Wesley Morgan, Jordan’s father, expresses frustration over the lengthy process, citing the clarity of the case as a reason for urgency.
Jordan was killed on February 22, 2022, when Gilday allegedly broke into the Morgan home, fatally shooting Jordan as she lay asleep in her bed. Her father recalls Jordan being the first target after Gilday entered the home, lamenting the brutal nature of the attack, where she was shot more than eleven times. In Jordan’s honor, August 28 would have marked her 35th birthday, a date now clouded by grief for her family.
Wesley Morgan has publicly questioned the justice system, noting, “He confessed, there’s been no issues of confession… it’s a cut and dry case.” He is troubled by Gilday’s ability to live a relatively normal life within the prison system while the Morgan family continues to await justice. Morgan urges for stricter accountability measures to prevent such crimes, stating that “the penalty has to become great enough that it will stop.” His emotional turmoil reveals a deep sense of loss and anger regarding his daughter’s untimely death.
