United Way of the Bluegrass Hosts Successful Super Saturday Event
Helping Community Members with Their Taxes
In a significant community outreach initiative, United Way of the Bluegrass hosted their second Super Saturday Free Tax Prep event aimed at lightening the tax season burden for residents of Lexington. The not-for-profit organization offered free tax preparation services to individuals whose income was $64,000 or below at the Lexington Senior Center.
Volunteers Stepping Forward
Despite weather forecasts predicting chilly conditions, the event attracted a larger audience than expected, with scores of community members availing the free service. What made the event more distinctive was the team of dedicated volunteers who stepped up to render their services. These volunteers, trained and certified by the IRS, worked closely with the attendees, guiding them through the tax preparation process.
“Our volunteers are the heart of the program,” voiced Gary Cremeans, Director of Community Impact at United Way. “Their dedication and expertise in dealing with tax matters make these Super Saturdays possible. We’re happy to say that every participant was able to leave with their taxes completed and, in many instances, with tax refund returns already being processed.”
Missed the Event? Don’t Worry
Considering the success and positive response to these events, United Way is planning to host another Super Saturday in April. For those community members who were unable to participate in the recent event, appointments can be made by calling 211 to get taxes done.
