The ceremony marked the official start of Mayor Layne Wilkerson and several city commissioners, including Katima Smith-Willis, Kelly May, Leesa Unger, and Rob Richardson, as they took their oaths of office.

Mayor Wilkerson was sworn in by Franklin District Court Judge Chris Olds, who highlighted their long-standing friendship, having known each other since childhood through sports. The meeting included a formal declaration from each member, ensuring they had not engaged in a duel with deadly weapons and pledging to support the U.S. and Kentucky constitutions.

The event was attended by family members and supporters, creating an atmosphere of celebration and community engagement. New city commissioner Kelly May shared her excitement about tackling upcoming initiatives and fostering development in Frankfort. Meanwhile, Katima Smith-Willis expressed her commitment to addressing local issues and enhancing residents’ quality of life.

The city will now look toward the future under the direction of the newly elected officials. With a population eager for progress, the commissioners discussed various goals, including improving public infrastructure, enhancing community programs, and addressing economic development challenges.

The city of Frankfort anticipates a productive term ahead as its new leadership settles into their roles, ready to facilitate growth and tackle issues impacting the local community.
