LEXINGTON, Ky. – Approximately 1 in 6 Kentuckians are currently facing uncertainty about their next meal, a pressing issue that God’s Pantry Food Bank is committed to addressing. The food bank aims to alleviate food insecurity in a state where over 265,000 residents lack consistent access to nutritious food. Alex Maddox, the food bank’s development manager, noted that many individuals may be just “one small step away” from hunger due to unexpected job losses or rising healthcare costs.
In the past year, God’s Pantry Food Bank successfully distributed over 46 million pounds of food, equating to nearly 39 million meals for those in need. However, the organization recognizes that further action is required to meet the ongoing demands of the community. They offer various programs tailored to support children, families, and seniors, particularly those on fixed incomes.
Community members are encouraged to participate by engaging through four initiatives: donate, advocate, volunteer, and engage. According to Maddox, every dollar contributed can help the food bank provide up to six meals for individuals facing hunger. “At the end of the day, food is a human right and essential for growth,” he stated, reaffirming the organization’s dedication to ensuring that all Kentuckians have access to the nutrition they need to thrive.
