Frankfort, Ky. – Governor Andy Beshear has issued a proclamation for flags at all state office buildings to be flown at half-staff on Saturday, October 28, in remembrance of State Senator Johnnie Turner. Turner, who tragically passed away on October 22, was involved in a lawn mower accident that ultimately resulted in his death.
The accident occurred when Turner, 76, accidentally drove his lawn mower into the deep end of an empty swimming pool at his residence in Harlan. Recognized as a dedicated public servant, Turner had served as a member of the Kentucky State Senate since 2021 and had previously been a representative in the State House from 1999 to 2002.
Visitation for Senator Turner will take place today from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Harlan County High School. His funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Harlan. In honor of his service and contributions, flags will be lowered statewide from sunrise to sunset on the day of his funeral.
Governor Beshear expressed condolences to Turner’s family and highlighted the late senator’s impact on the community and his commitment to public service. This tribute reflects the deep respect for an individual who devoted much of his life to serving the people of Kentucky.
Residents across the state are encouraged to pay their respects and join in the observance of this somber occasion, remembering a leader who made significant contributions to Kentucky.
