LEXINGTON, Ky. – A fire early Friday morning has displaced at least six residents from a townhome located at Chant Court. The Lexington Fire Department (LFD) received the emergency call around 5:15 AM and arrived to find a significant blaze emanating from the structure.
According to Battalion Chief Adam Sorrell, the fire appears to have originated in the basement of the split-level townhouse. Fire crews executed a swift response, allowing them to control and extinguish the flames in a timely manner. Sorrell noted, “They were able to make a quick attack on it and get it knocked down fairly quickly.”
The quick action of the fire department ensured that all occupants were evacuated safely, and there were no reported injuries among residents or fire personnel. However, the townhome that caught fire is deemed a total loss, requiring significant demolition and repairs before it can be inhabitable again.
Aside from the primary structure, neighboring apartments sustained some smoke and water damage, with one unit suffering a roof hole due to a ventilation cut made during firefighting efforts. Six residents and one pet have been displaced from the fire-affected home. The Lexington Red Cross is currently providing assistance to those displaced.
Alexander Echevarria, a resident of one of the nearby units, expressed his shock at witnessing the incident unfold. “I was scared and nervous, but my first reaction was to run out of the house and get to safety,” he stated.
Property management has indicated they have available apartments to accommodate those displaced by the fire. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, and further details will be released as they become available.
This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information is obtained.
