Fayette County schools officials are in discussions about planning renovations or potentially providing a new building for Lafayette High School. District spokesperson Dia Davidson-Smith confirmed that there is currently no plan to relocate the School for the Creative and Performing Arts (SCAPA) high school program from its present location on Lafayette’s campus.
During a local planning committee meeting on Monday, the logistics of moving SCAPA’s fourth- through eighth-grade program from its facility on Springhill Drive were discussed as part of the discussions on a possible expansion of Lafayette High School. However, Davidson-Smith emphasized that the high school program remains firmly in place at Lafayette.
The district has yet to clarify where the fourth- through eighth-grade students would be relocated if the committee’s proposed move is approved. This uncertainty leaves many parents and stakeholders awaiting more detailed plans.
The Fayette schools board has not made a final decision regarding this matter, and the next step for the planning committee is to report its findings and recommendations to the board, according to Davidson-Smith.
SCAPA is specialized for students who demonstrate exceptional talents in various disciplines, including art, ballet, band, contemporary dance, creative writing, drama, piano, strings, and voice. To enroll in the program, students must submit documentation and succeed in an audition within their chosen arts area.
