Fayette County officials announced on Monday that the school district has received a perfect external audit for the fifth consecutive year. This accomplishment highlights the district’s commitment to financial transparency, accountability, and excellence, according to district leadership.
The Tennessee-based firm LBMC presented its findings to the Fayette County Board of Education in November 2023, delivering an unmodified opinion with no management comments or findings. This type of audit is described by district officials as a rigorous, objective, and systematic review of financial records, transactions, and internal controls, aimed at identifying any financial irregularities or compliance issues.
Data from the Kentucky Department of Education revealed that out of the state’s 174 school districts, only 25 achieved this prestigious distinction in the current year. The significance of this accolade emphasizes not only the district’s dedication to financial stewardship but also its adherence to state, federal, and local regulations.
Superintendent Demetrus Liggins stressed the importance of accountability for public educators funded by taxpayer dollars. “We hold ourselves to the highest standard of accountability,” Liggins stated. “This achievement assures our community that we are managing their investment responsibly and serves as a testament to the district’s dedication to safeguard taxpayer dollars.”
This continued success comes as part of Fayette County’s broader strategy to ensure trust and transparency in financial dealings, particularly in the management of community funds. The district’s leadership hopes to maintain this positive trend in the future, ensuring that their practices remain exemplary within the education sector.
The Fayette County School District’s milestone reflects its ongoing effort to enhance public trust and demonstrate responsible financial management to stakeholders.
