Former Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher Bids Farewell to KSU Board of Regents After Extended Tenure

Frankfort, Kentucky – Former Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher has officially departed from the Board of Regents at Kentucky State University (KSU). Fletcher, who was appointed by current Governor Andy Beshear on March 31, 2022, concluded his tenure after continuing to serve beyond his official term, which ended on June 30, 2023.

The Board of Regents is responsible for the administration and governance of KSU, and Fletcher’s service included significant contributions to the university’s strategic direction during a challenging period marked by the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fletcher’s departure was announced on Wednesday, following a long-standing commitment to the institution. Beshear is expected to appoint a successor soon, as the university looks to continue its mission of providing quality education to its students.

The Governor praised Fletcher for his dedication and leadership in promoting educational opportunities within the state. Beshear stated, “Governor Fletcher’s insights and experience have been invaluable to KSU, and his dedication to the university’s mission will be sorely missed.”

Fletcher was confirmed unanimously by the Senate on April 14, 2022, showcasing bipartisan support for his appointment. As part of his contributions, he focused on enhancing KSU’s academic programs and strengthening community partnerships to provide better resources for students.

In local weather news, residents can expect a rainy afternoon with a high of 57°F. Winds will be from the southwest at 10 to 20 mph, and there is a 100% chance of rain throughout the day. Thunderstorms may also be possible as the precipitation continues into the later hours.

The low tonight is expected to drop to 48°F with winds turning westerly at 5 to 10 mph. The rainy weather is likely to prompt a cautious approach for evening travel, as visibility may be reduced and road conditions could be slippery.

As KSU prepares for the transition of its Board leadership, the community looks forward to the new appointments that will shape the future of the university.
