East End Shared Kitchen Opens in Lexington, Supporting Local Culinary Entrepreneurs and Community Initiatives

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A new culinary initiative, the East End Shared Kitchen, has officially opened its doors in Lexington’s East End. Located at the intersection of Seventh Street and Maple Street, this multi-faceted business aims to enhance the local community through an innovative food-related business model.

The kitchen space, which held its grand opening recently, offers a unique venue for various food-related enterprises. By providing essential food business education, the East End Shared Kitchen aims to support small entrepreneurs as they navigate the challenges of the culinary industry, minimizing the risks associated with starting a restaurant.

According to East End Shared Kitchen CEO Taji Wadkins, many aspiring food entrepreneurs mistakenly believe that cooking skills alone guarantee success. “There’s a lot of cost with supplies; the market goes up and down, so prices change,” Wadkins explained. The shared kitchen will serve as a platform to equip these newcomers with vital knowledge and tools necessary for success, drawn from Wadkins’ five years of restaurant ownership experience.

Co-owner Thomas Hughley, who brings two decades of experience in the restaurant sector, echoed Wadkins’ sentiment. He emphasized the importance of sharing familial recipes and culinary skills within the community, fostering an environment of collaboration and learning. “We just know a lot of family recipes and a lot of cooking that we just kind of bring out and share with different people,” Hughley noted.

The East End Shared Kitchen also aims to serve local nonprofits, providing a space to prepare meals for the homeless and individuals in need. Wadkins highlighted the initiative’s broader mission, stating, “It’s bigger than just food. This is a place where you can get educated on the type of food that you are cooking, the type of food that you are ingesting.”
