Early Voting Begins in Lexington, KY as Officials Warn of Potential Wait Times

Lexington, KY – As early voting kicks off today, local officials are urging residents to prepare for potential wait times and to familiarize themselves with the ballot. Fayette County Clerk, Lamb, stressed that waiting an hour today should serve as a warning that lines could be even longer on Election Day. The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

To streamline the voting process, the Fayette County Clerk’s Office will be closed on Monday for absentee ballot processing and final preparations. Voters are strongly encouraged to review items on the ballot before heading to the polls. This election includes two constitutional amendments and a referendum concerning funding for Fayette County parks. “Know before you go,” Lamb emphasized, noting that copies of the ballot items will be available at polling places.

This year, the vote counting process will also experience changes. Instead of early reporting of absentee results, officials will begin scanning them in as they receive the V drives. Lamb reminded voters that this approach will resemble past elections, where the reporting of votes will progress gradually.

Voters planning to cast their ballots should ensure they bring proper identification. Those who are in line by 6 p.m. will still have the opportunity to vote, regardless of the time they arrive.

Residents can locate their precinct polling locations to ensure they are prepared to participate in this important civic duty. Early voting serves as an opportunity for those who may face challenges on Election Day, including longer wait times.

As the election draws near, the Fayette County Clerk continues to advocate for voter education and participation to ensure a smooth electoral process.
