Nicholasville’s ‘Drop Your Drawers’ Underwear Drive Aims to Support Children in Need

Nicholasville, Kentucky – The annual Drop Your Drawers underwear drive is back, aiming to benefit Jessamine County Schools. The campaign, which runs from November 1 through December 30, encourages donations of new underwear for children in need.

Organized by the Jessamine County Public Library (JCPL), the initiative is inspired by the beloved character Captain Underpants, created by author and illustrator Dav Pilkey. The drive addresses the critical issue of children’s access to fresh underwear, ensuring that those who do not have it can still participate fully in their education without embarrassment.

“When children lack clean underwear, it can significantly impact their confidence and educational experience,” said a library representative. “Our goal is to keep classrooms comfortable and these kids focused on learning.”

Since its inception in 2016, the Drop Your Drawers campaign has successfully donated over 660 pairs of underwear. This year, JCPL is aiming for a new milestone of 1,500 pairs to be distributed through Family Resource Centers across the district.

Donations can be dropped off at the JCPL Customer Service Desk in Nicholasville, located at 600 South Main Street. Only new underwear in original packaging is accepted, with preferred sizes ranging from 4 to 16 for both boys and girls. Each donated package enters the donor into a drawing for a $50 Visa gift card and they will receive an “I dropped my drawers at the library!” sticker while supplies last.

This initiative not only emphasizes community support but also aligns with JCPL’s broader mission to enrich local life through education and resource access. For more information, interested individuals can contact the library at (859) 885-3523 or visit their website.

The Drop Your Drawers campaign is a compelling example of how local efforts can enhance educational environments and foster community spirit.
