DiverCity Festival: A Showcase of Lexington’s Cultural Diversity

Lexington, Ky. — A Celebration of Cultures

Lexington was buzzing with vibrant energy as the annual DiverCity Festival was held in downtown. Known for assembling a unique blend of cultures, the festival showcased the remarkable diversity prevalent in central Kentucky. With almost 100 vendors displaying a broad range of goods, the event served as an opportunity for local businesses to thrive and for the community to unite under one sky.

Celebrating Differences

Brett Bibb, the Vice President of DiverCity Planning, described the festival as a cherished annual event appealing to the diverse cultures in Kentucky. “It’s an annual festival that brings all of the cultures that are present in Central Kentucky to learn from one another and celebrate our differences,” Bibb stated.

Diversity Brought to Life

One of the extraordinary vendors was Treehouse Goods, embracing diversity through traditional family recipes and distinctive jewelry. Owner Tara Modjeski spoke highly of the event, regarding it as more than just an ordinary festival. “This particular event is extra special because I get to see everybody I’ve met at all of the different types of shows here together today,” Modjeski shared.

Appreciating Local Business and Creativity

Third-time participant and business owner Wanda Lewis echoed a similar sentiment. She admired the value the festival brings to local businesses and savored the opportunity to share her creativity. “The best part is talking to people, seeing what they’re about, seeing all the different cultures and just interacting with them,” Lewis expressed.

Channels of Art and Diversity

Lewis brings diversity to life through her creative business of button making. She creates buttons that appeal to various cultures, ranging from Spanish, African American to pride buttons. For Lewis, the festival serves as a reaffirmation that diversity and businesses like hers matter.

A United Kentucky

As the DiverCity Festival came to a close, it left behind an invigorating sense of unity and appreciation for cultural diversity. It is events like these that remind us of the strength that lies in diversity. It is the unique blend of cultures, traditions, and ideas that make us unique, fostering a vibrant, multicultural society.
