Parlor Salon to Host Fundraising Haircut Event for Arbor Youth Services on November 10

LEXINGTON, Ky. — A full-service hair salon and spa is set to offer discounted haircuts for a meaningful cause next month. Parlor Salon will host a fundraising event on November 10 to support Arbor Youth Services, an organization that addresses child and family homelessness in Fayette County. The salon’s owner and director, Tyler Blackburn, initiated this effort in light of recent funding cuts experienced by Arbor.

“I’ve heard they’ve lost some funding this year and I wanted to help fill that void,” Blackburn stated, emphasizing the importance of the shelter’s work. On this dedicated day, all proceeds from haircuts, priced between $30 and $45, will be directed to Arbor Youth Services. The event will run from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and requires no appointments.

In a strategic decision to enhance turnout, Blackburn moved the event from Monday to Sunday, a change he believes will better accommodate patrons. The Parlor Salon staff, typically off on Sundays, readily volunteered their time to support this initiative. “They were excited to volunteer their time and talents to help the community and spread the love,” Blackburn noted.

The urgent need for funding stems from growing demand at Arbor. Virginia Carmical, the organization’s marketing and development coordinator, highlighted the challenges, stating, “We’ve known for a few months about the increasing demand for services, so there’s been a push for fundraising to bridge the gap.” Recent reports indicate that their programs for individuals aged 18 and under and 18 to 24 are currently at capacity, necessitating immediate financial support.

The lack of funding particularly affects the program for young adults aged 18 to 24, although the specific financial loss remains undisclosed, described by Carmical as substantial. With 1,626 runaways reported in Kentucky in 2022, according to the Kentucky State Police, the need for shelter services continues to rise, further emphasizing the critical nature of this fundraising effort.

In aligning the community with this cause, the staff at Parlor Salon reflects a commendable commitment to support local youth. “With the economy and everything going on today, we want to make sure our youth are included any way we can be helpful,” said Joritta Bailey, the salon manager.

This collaborative event not only offers affordable haircuts but also aims to make a significant impact on the lives of vulnerable youth in the area. Parlor Salon invites everyone to participate on November 10 and contribute to a vital community resource.
