In tandem with the move of Lexington Pasta, an exciting new dining establishment called Pasta Garage has recently opened its doors. This venture is a collaboration between the owner and his partner, further enriching the culinary scene in the area. But that’s not all! The duo has also made a commitment to support fledgling restauranteurs by launching an incubator program that has helped around 25 different groups get their culinary businesses off the ground. This initiative not only underscores a spirit of community but also promotes the potential of Delaware Avenue as a thriving business corridor.
As Delaware Avenue continues to grow, developer Will Hanrahan is planning an exciting project named Railyard on a less than 1-acre parcel located at 1000 Delaware Drive. This development aims to introduce 32 apartment units across three buildings, with a notable inclusion of 12 affordable units. In a forward-thinking approach, the two larger buildings will offer two stories at the front and three at the back, providing a contemporary design that complements the urban landscape.
Moreover, Railyard will feature a delightful community garden, a small dog park perfect for furry friends, and ample bike racks, promoting sustainability and community engagement. With retail spaces positioned on the lower levels of the larger buildings, this development is set to address the long-standing need for affordable housing while also encouraging local businesses.
Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, Paradise Cycles is making plans to create a quaint pub within its property at 976 Delaware Avenue. The owner expresses a vision of establishing a cozy, welcoming local neighborhood lounge that residents can enjoy. It’s not just about bikes anymore; the area is blossoming into a community with diverse offerings.
What’s fueling this growth? The answer lies in the area’s fantastic accessibility and proximity to residential buildings, attracting more clients. With a boost in popularity, customers are flocking from I-75, drawn by good reviews and the burgeoning scene. Hanrahan’s plans for Railyard are currently under review with the Urban County Planning Commission, and a meeting has been set for March. If all goes well, construction could kick off later this year, bringing the development to life.
Meanwhile, Barnhill Chimney is set to move a significant part of its operations to the former Pivot Brewing building located at 1400 Delaware Avenue. After closing its doors in August 2024, Pivot Brewing paved the way for new possibilities. Barnhill Chimney aims to enhance retail opportunities in the neighborhood by keeping and renting out various buildings, further contributing to the area’s growth.
With all these exciting changes, Delaware Avenue is on track to become the next popular corridor in Lexington, closely following the transformation seen along National Avenue, which has successfully turned into a trendy nightlife and shopping destination.
