New Culinary Destination Thea’s Bass & Biddy Kitchen Opens at Greyline Station in Lexington

Lexington, Kentucky – A new culinary destination has opened its doors at Greyline Station, welcoming food enthusiasts to Thea’s Bass & Biddy Kitchen. Launched by Thea Mason, a former special education teacher, this establishment offers a unique menu featuring Detroit-style fried chicken and fish, alongside other comfort food favorites.

The restaurant officially opened in October 2023 in the space previously occupied by The Social Vegan. This transition reflects a growing trend of educators turning culinary entrepreneurs in the Lexington area, following similar paths of other former teachers in the food industry.

Mason, who has a rich background in cooking taught by her grandmother, expressed her mission: “I decided to bring a little Detroit flair to Lexington.” Her experiences with pop-up events at local festivals and a previous stall at Julietta Market have garnered her a loyal customer base, paving the way for this brick-and-mortar venture.

Thea’s Bass & Biddy Kitchen serves a variety of dishes in a cozy setting that accommodates up to 50 patrons. The menu includes mouthwatering options such as burgers, mac and cheese, chicken sandwiches, and loaded fries. For lunch, the offerings are streamlined, while a hearty brunch menu on Sundays features items like grits, eggs, and turkey sausage.

Mason, along with her executive chef, Charles William Kyles, plans to expand the menu during winter, adding comforting specials like soups and chili. “Our goal is to bring flavorful food, good times, and a family dynamic,” Mason stated, highlighting the welcoming atmosphere of her restaurant.

Beyond the food, Thea’s Bass & Biddy Kitchen aims to create an engaging community experience. Monthly events such as karaoke nights and live music are planned to attract visitors and foster a vibrant social scene at Greyline Station.

Located at 101 W. Loudon Ave. Suite 162, the restaurant operates during the following hours: Tuesday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 6 to 9 p.m., and Sunday 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for brunch. With a commitment to quality and community, Mason’s venture marks an exciting addition to Lexington’s dining landscape.
