Bringing Relief to Veterans Amid Rising Temperatures in Kentucky

Heat and humidity in Kentucky are on the rise, and the timing couldn’t be any better for the “It’s Cool to be a Vet” initiative. This annual community program, now in its second year, is taking nominations to identify veterans and military members in need of a helping hand. Kevin Pearl, an ex-marine and current plumbing manager at Fayette Heating & Air, spoke passionately about the initiative, saying, “This is one of many things we do to give back to the community.” His company is set to install a brand new air conditioning system for a deserving local veteran.
A Gesture of Appreciation
According to Pearl, the cooling system and its installation hold an estimated value of over $10,000. Pearl, who himself served in the U.S. Marines, affirmed, “We can’t thank our service members enough for the sacrifices they make for our country’s safety every day. The more we can do for them, the better.”
Nominations Open Through June 27
Nominations are open until Thursday, June 27 at noon. Following this, the company will select two winners: one from the central Kentucky area and another from the northern Kentucky region. Each will receive a complete cooling system for their home. To be eligible for the giveaway, nominees need to meet certain qualifying conditions:
- Own their own home
- Have pre-existing ductwork
- Be an honorably discharged U.S. military veteran, or currently serving in the U.S. military
- Offer proof of service, either through a DD214 Form for discharged members or a current Military ID Card for active ones
Nominations can be submitted online, with the selection process expected to complete before July 4. In true festive spirit, the winner’s cooling systems will be installed in their homes the week following Independence Day.

Alongside the “It’s Cool to be a Vet” campaign, Pearl drew attention to an upcoming career event hosted by his company. They are looking to expand their team and are inviting job seekers to a career fair on Thursday, June 27, between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
