Lexington, KY – A profound connection between a boy and a horse is soon to captivate audiences on the big screen, following the inspiring true story of Cody’s Wish. The thoroughbred, named after Cody Dorman, represents the enduring bond created between him and the animal during a challenging time in the boy’s life.
Cody, who was diagnosed with Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome, faced significant health challenges from a young age. His father, Kelly Dorman, revealed the chilling odds of Cody’s survival, recalling that doctors predicted he wouldn’t live past the age of two. However, six years ago, Cody was granted a wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which included a special visit to Keeneland racecourse.
During a memorable trip to Gainsborough Farm, Cody met the horse that would carry his name. “Cody’s Wish was different when he came out of the stall,” Kelly shared, highlighting the unique bond that formed between Cody and the thoroughbred. This connection was palpable; at every race, Cody’s Wish would search for him in the paddock.
Tragically, Cody passed away in November of the last year, just one day after Cody’s Wish won his second Breeder’s Cup race. Yet, his legacy continues through both the horse and the Cody Dorman Legacy Fund established with Make-A-Wish. “I know he’s smiling from heaven… helping to grant other kids wishes,” said Kelly, reflecting on his son’s enduring impact.
The Dorman family is enthusiastic about bringing Cody’s story to a wider audience. A film titled Cody’s Wish is currently in development, with plans for a book to accompany it. Warren Ostergard, the film’s producer, expressed his honor in telling the Dorman family’s story, while director Jeff Celentano mentioned that “everything about this story from the day Cody was born was meant to be.”
Additionally, Big Ass Fans has made a $10,000 inaugural donation to the newly established Cody Dorman Legacy Wish Fund, further cementing the mission to support children facing similar challenges.
This heartwarming narrative highlights the resilience of the human spirit and the bonds we form, ensuring that Cody Dorman’s story continues to inspire and impact lives well beyond his own.
