In a disturbing incident near Kentucky auto dealership, several vehicles recently sustained significant damage from unusual ‘spike strips’ crafted from cardboard and screws. Local authorities are ramping up efforts, launching an extensive investigation to shed light on the situation.
The situation unfolded near the reputed Dan Cummins dealership when someone strategically placed these homemade cardboard spike strips near its entrance and the detail shop. One look at the malicious gadgets, packing three screws each, was enough to make any driver wary.
The manufacturing material ranged from ordinary wood screws to drywall screws, strategically positioned on the roadway for unsuspecting cars to roll over, according to Josh Nash with the local Police Department.
The strips were more destructive than their cardboard construction would suggest. Five vehicles fell victim to the nefarious act, including one patrol car. Dan Cummins witnessed the damage to four of its employees’ vehicles. Their connections have provoked speculation that the crime may not be random.
While Nash does believe that the individual was targeting dealership employees, he admits the reason behind the deed remains a mystery. The uncertainties surrounding the attacker cast a long shadow, raising concerns whether the culprit could be a disgruntled employee or an unhappy customer.
With the perpetrator on the loose and the mechanics’ trickery showing alarming sophistication, the Police Department has issued a public alert. Nash urges drivers to be on high alert, particularly during nighttime, until the offender is brought to justice. He emphasizes the unsettling thought that a simple tire puncture can have lethal consequences.
“No one realizes how dangerous it is to have a puncture in a tire. You’ve now put somebody’s life in danger,” Nash warns, underlining the gravity of the situation.
It wasn’t long ago that the Dan Cummins dealership had been in the news for another unsavoury incident. Last month, two cars were reported stolen from its premises. However, Nash assured that there’s no evidence thus far pointing to a connection between the two disruptive incidents.
The damages incurred from this alarming misuse of ordinary materials amount to a total of $1,500. Prompted by the urgency of the situation, the Police Department is appealing for any information that could lead to the perpetrator of this malicious act.
