LEXINGTON, Ky. — Residents of the Gleneagles Apartments woke up to a frustrating reality this weekend after nearly a dozen cars had their windows smashed. The incidents occurred early Sunday morning, leaving many residents concerned about security within the complex.
One anonymous resident reported that her granddaughter’s car had been broken into three times in the past year, expressing her frustration with the ongoing thefts. “It’s really ridiculous that you can’t live. You struggle to work, to have nice things, and then people tear it up,” she lamented. Residents have called for increased security measures, as current Flock cameras at the complex are controlled by the city and do not seem to be effectively deterring criminal activity.
In light of the break-ins, Lexington Police are investigating the incidents and have taken fingerprints from several vandalized vehicles. With local residents stressing the need for safer living conditions, some have suggested improvements, such as better lighting and surveillance installations, to monitor parking areas more effectively. “You don’t want your property tore up. Nobody can afford to pay deductibles every time their car gets broken into,” another resident stated.
As of now, corporate representatives from Gleneagles Apartments have not commented on the recent spate of crimes. While police continue their investigation, residents remain vigilant, hoping for a resolution that brings peace of mind back to their community.
